LAST BLOG OF JUNIOR YEAR

IT'S FINALLY DONE. Junior year has had its highs, as well as its lows. I guess one of the perks of this year is that I've realized that your grades heavily affect how hard you work. There has been many sleepless nights that were filled with studying and finishing homework, so many times I had to tell my friends no to hanging out because of too much homework. So many times I'd go a whole day with just eating a bowl of soup I stole from Cheddar's or just eating a bag of chips because it's easy to eat in classes when my stomach was hungry.

This year I realized school is more important than a social life. For me, I want to go to college in California so what's the point of trying to continue friendships when I'll most likely not see any of these people after high school. I've accepted the fact that people will come in and out of my life, which is way beyond my control so I just have to build a bridge and get over it. Plus there will be other people to come in my life that can offer great friendships.

Junior year was the first year I found myself actually trying in my classes. The transition of having so much free time sophomore year (which was consumed with Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill) to having no free time to even watch a 5-minute music video that's not taken place on the toilet while going to the bathroom or during a 10-minute study break that's implanted in my schedule so I have time to eat and do human bodily functions. I feel very confident with taking a college class next year to prepare myself even more for college so when the time comes I'm more than ready to take on all the obstacles in college.

Although this is my last blog for a grade, I hope to continue blogging when I find something interesting about this lovely state of California. I plan to blog either on my vacation this summer or after I get back, but as lame as this is going to sound, I enjoyed blogging about California and about how strangely happy it made me this year. However at points of the year I found it hard and tedious to blog, I still tried to do my best and I guess that's all that really matters.

Runyon Canyon Trail

Trying to make a list of things to do in California, I decided to look up good places to go running and/ or hiking with my aunt. According to AllTrails.com (sponsored by National Geographic) the best trail to go running is the Runyon Canyon that forsees the city of Los Angeles. The pictures on the website looks like the trail has inclinations and might get a little dusty however IT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE A FUN AND BEAUTIFUL RUN AND I WANT TO JUST RUN ON IT RIGHT NOW BUT I CAN'T BECAUSE I'M STILL IN IOWA.

Running releases endorphins that makes people happy and is great exercise leading to a positive well-being. Imagine running and releasing those lovely endorphins while on this trail that allows you to overlook one of the most beautiful cities in the nation. Literally just thinking about running this trail is giving me butterflies because I can just imagine the pure happiness and bliss I will be feeling, especially the fact that I will be done with Junior year which is the most stressful (school) year of my life.

Joan Didion

These past couple of months I had to research about an author in which my partner and I unanimously picked Joan Didion. Throughout the duration of this project I learned so much about this woman. Not only is she an incredible author, but she's an outstanding person who is very intelligent and considerate.

So much of her work is actually influenced by where she grew up (born and raised in Sacramento). It's pretty neat when she talks about places I have personally been to, but also imagine the places in California where I haven't been to which is a lot. I haven't been to North and East California so reading Joan Didion's books are descriptive which allows readers like myself to picture what these places look like, even though I haven't been there personally.

I read a Paris Review interview which she was being completely and utterly honest. She admitted to being selectively an introvert. The reason why I said selectively is because she will have friends over for dinner or to hang out for a bit, but at times she can be off by herself for a long period of time and just work on a project. In fact she actually has her own routine that she does when she starts a project.

Joan has been through so much in her life, and she seems to still be hanging on. She literally witnessed her husband die right after coming home from a hospital visit seeing their daughter, who at the time was in critical condition with an internal disorder involving her pancreas. Then just a couple years ago her daughter passed away. I don't know what I would have done in her situation, but because of those events, she was able to create two really interesting and successful books- A Year of Magical Thinking and Blue Nights. Besides John Green, I've never liked an author as much as Joan Didion.

What Makes You Beautiful

I'm sure a lot of people know or have heard of One Direction. This is the music video for 'What Makes You Beautiful' because it was shot in Malibu, California.
OneDirectionVevo. "What Makes You Beautiful." Online video clip. YouTube. YouTube, 19 Aug. 2011. Web. 4 May 2015.

San Diego State University

There are two universities in San Diego, University of California San Diego and San Diego State University. Located in the heart of San Diego is where SDSU (San Diego State University) resides. Students that attend this school are known to be the San Diego State University Aztecs which I think is cool and unique.

For an undergraduate out-of-state student the tuition costs about $34,000 which for out of school tuition is really cheap compared to other schools. University of California San Diego is just slightly higher, $37,000.

However according to the SDSU website (x) non-residents can apply for residency so they can receive in state tuition only if they can prove to the state that they aren't just going to school in California and then leaving. If the person can prove that they're planning on staying in California then they will be able to apply for in state tuition, which in my opinion, why leave California? It is such a great place filled with nothing but great vibes.

Some perks of San Diego State University, other than the fact it's cheaper, it only requires the ACT not the ACT Plus (with writing), the college overall is more artsy- more into music and theatre but still offers a variety of majors and minors not in the art category. Also SDSU is near Scripps park which could be a great place to hang out with friends or study outside.

One thing that isn't so great about San Diego State University, compared to University of California San Diego, it isn't walking distance to a beach. In my case, coming from out of state I know I won't know anyone in the school so I've decided that I'm definitely living on campus and having a car won't be necessary. It will just be a pain in the ass to have to always pay for parking I'll most likely only use it to go grocery shopping which since my aunt lives in San Diego she can take me or I can just walk places. EXERCISE IS GOOD! This summer I want to learn how to skateboard and longboard so that could also be another option for me.

SDSU Admissions. "Day in the Life of SDSU Aztecs"

This six-minute video shows a little bit of what the daily life for a San Diego State University student is like. In the video you can see a bit of inside the dorms, as well as the campus and the classrooms. I like how this video includes three different people's perspective and a little background info like how the girl with long brown hair, Nikki, is from Phoenix, AZ and she is extremely involved in school activities as well as being in a sorority. She also said that she lives off campus and has to drive a little bit everyday to get to class but there was another girl in the video, Ikaika, who lives on campus and she said she can wake up and be on time just 15 minutes before class starts. Then the only guy in the video, Joquel from Hawaii, enjoys SDSU because the climate is similar to Hawaii's and he "likes the engineering program" and it shows him in his class and labs which I don't know if he's a good actor but Joquel looks like he truly is enjoying SDSU and the program that it offers.

Malibu/Pepperdine University

Malibu is yet another small city near Los Angeles. Whether people just know the name because of the beach or because of the many references to it on television shows or on movies, people just know of it. Those people who have watched the 'What Makes You Beautiful' music video by One Direction has seen the Malibu beach because that's where it was taken place at.

Also Malibu is where Pepperdine University is located at. Pepperdine is a private and religious school that is in a way "hard to get accepted" according to my aunt. It will be about $47,000 to attend this college which is extremely expensive and the acceptance rate isn't too high. However it ranks number 2 most beautiful campus in the nation which is believable.

Pepperdine sits on a hill that overlooks the Malibu beach. The walk to the beach would literally take no time at all. Also the location of the school is great because it's extremely close to a beach and it's not a long drive to downtown Los Angeles so there will always be something to do.

My aunt and her daughter visited Pepperdine once upon a time and my aunt said it was absolutely beautiful. They said the dorms and the layout of the campus was the most beautiful of it all. However my cousin didn't have a big interest in going to a small university so she didn't apply.

To be honest, I'm on the same boat as her. I want to go to a college with tons of people and I want to go somewhere that has a variety of things to do. Coming from a small town with the same old people and nothing to do for years after years got tiring and is very boring, that's why I'm hoping college will be different, especially in California. I have a slight image of what I think college will be like and that image includes me living on campus in a school in California that's near a beach because beaches make me happy and I hope to someday learn how to surf.

Kylie Jenner Challenge

A funny thing that recently went viral was the Kylie Jenner lip challenge. People have been putting shot glasses or cups around their mouth and then sucking all the air out. After a while of doing it the idiot's lips would be swollen and big, similar to Kylie Jenner's lip transformation, going from barely any lips to large, full lips.

What people don't know and understand is that makeup has the power to do a lot of things, and one of those things is to make your lips appear bigger. Girls- if you want bigger lips, outline your lips with lip liner before you put on lipstick. Outlining your lips will make it appear bigger than they actually are. Kylie admits to using this trick to make her lips look the way they do, but I'm calling bs. There's no way you can make:
into this:
As much as she is telling everyone that she didn't get surgery, she did. Personally I think it's dumb that she's denying accusations of lip surgery because it's obvious she did and with her denying it makes her look bad. If I had the money for surgery to change something that I hate about myself, I would, and same with all the people hating on her for getting one. On one of her vines she said something about people accusing her of the surgery and she made a comment that proved it to be true.

Don't get me wrong, I do like her new lips, however I think she may have made them too big for her face, or maybe she just pouts a lot. For the longest time I was insecure of my own lips and I thought mine were too big and ugly but with the Kylie Jenner Challenge, I've started to like my lips.

Surfing [Video]

This is a video of how to surf for beginners filmed on a very well-known beach in California, Huntington Beach. Basically the video shows how to properly ride on a surfboard.

Orange County, California's luxury coastal destination. "How to Surf: Surfing Basics in Huntington Beach" Online video clip. YouTube. YouTube, 14 May 2010. Web 3 May 2014

Surfing

All the parts of California that I've visited were close one to at least one beach, if not more than one. Some of the colleges that I've looked at even offer surfing as an extracurricular activity. For example during my college visit at University of California San Diego, our tour leader told us that she didn't know how to surf entering into the college but she went to a couple of the surfing lessons and she slightly knows how to surf. One of the many reasons why I really want to go to UCSD for college.

Since the eighth grade I've wanted to surf. I remember the one thing that jumpstarted my desire to learn how to surf; a Juicy Couture surfboard. Randomly one day I was looking through the Juicy Couture website and saw the most beautiful (and expensive) surfboard. It basic, pink with a Juicy Couture logo which was originally priced at like $800. I'm embarrassed to admit that I thought about buying the surfboard just because it looked really pretty, also keep in mind this was before I had my heart set on moving to California for college. So basically if I would have listened to my instincts and bought that surfboard and stayed at home for college, I wouldn't have ever used it.

The only thing I'm scared of is not being able to swim against really strong currents. When I was younger I taught myself how to do a flip underwater. It took a couple tries at the pool on different occasions to finally be able to do one without the help of the ladder or edge of the pool. One random time when I was swimming with my family from Omaha, I tried to do a flip and as soon as I started to flip I noticed that something was off. My balance and twist didn't feel right, it was to the point where I couldn't find my way to the surface when I should have. Instinctively I tried to breathe because I couldn't hold my breath anymore, that's when I started to panic. I kept thinking I'm too young to die. I don't want to die. This isn't the way I should die. Choking, miserable and scared from being stuck underwater, I somehow I managed to open my eyes and find the surface where I then could breathe air instead of water. Since that day I haven't been confident when it comes to swimming, diving, or doing any other tricks in the water.

I don't know how I'll be able to get over my fear of drowning especially since I'm not able to touch the bottom of the ocean like I when I was drowning in the pool, however I'll do what it takes to try surfing at least once in my life. When I want something, I'll do anything I can in order to get it, even if that means putting my fear of drowning aside so I can get on a surfboard and surf.

I've watched numerous movies and television shows that involved surfing as well as watch some videos of how to surf for beginners. From what I've seen you start off with a surfboard and proper clothing. Then you lay yourself on the surfboard just on the sand and imagine yourself on the water. There's a certain way to get on and off a surfboard in the water, as well as a specific time to do so. I've also learned that early in the morning during mid-or high-tides typically are the ideal times to go surfing.

California

In the midst of browsing through some of Kalin and Myles' older music, I saw a song called "California" by JamieBoy featuring Kalin and Myles. Of course I couldn't help click on the related video and watched the music video. Of course it's a song about California so when I saw the singer dancing and singing on the beach. There's a line in the song that says "I gotta warn ya, if you come, well you just might stay" and that line hit me. Thought about tweeting it with the hashtags #relatable and #life, but instead I decided to do that here.

I've realized that some people all over the world feels the same as I do about the beautiful state. There's just so much to love about it- the beaches, weather, and activities that are offered make California so unique and an ideal place to either vacation and/or live.

This song itself is pretty catchy, and I think it's decent. I love Kalin and Myles so them being featured in it makes me like it even more.

The Warped Tour

The Warped Tour is another musical tour where there are multiple stage setups and a ton of bands that play and people can walk around from one stage to another. This tour is mostly from the alternative genre and bands like Never, Our Last Night, and Family Force 5 that typically play however there are a small variety of other genres that play like hardcore metal music, as well as some pop, and some indie.

The Warped Tour is very similar to Coachella, except with different genres. People who go to this typically wear either muscle tanks, graphic tees with either skinny jeans or high waisted shorts that usually matched their vans or converse shoes. Not all the bands listed on the Vans Warped Tour website (x) will play at all the dates listed, a small selection of bands will have breaks throughout the duration of the tour.

A recommendation I'd suggest would be to look at the list of bands that are playing, each year the selection varies, and see what bands you'd like to see and where the majority of them will play in a city near you. Unless you want to go to the Warped Tour for the fun of it. I've been to a couple music festivals through my youth group and I each time I loved everything about it. And the summer of 2013 I actually went to a music festival called 'Sunshine' and I actually watched Family Force 5, and that's when I first heard of them. Their music is very energetic and catchy. I remembered my youth group leaders telling me how good this band is and to be honest, I was very skeptical and was scared it was going to be a waste of my time. However after they performed me and my sisters each got a CD of theirs (all different of course) and I will still play the CDs from time to time and still have the same love for it as I did when I made the purchase.

Honestly for multiple years now I've been wanting to go to the warped tour, two summers ago I was going through a Sleeping With Sirens and Pierce the Veil phase and all I did was listen to all their music and nothing else. I remembered vividly looking up when they both were going to play in a city either close to me or close to Cleveland, Oklahoma where my best friend had, at the time, just moved down to. I remembered trying to get tickets for the Oklahoma City date but unfortunately at the time didn't have enough money for both the drive down to Oklahoma as well as the tickets for the event.

Summer 2k15

While eating dinner with my mom this afternoon, she brought up the topic of going to California for vacation this summer. Literally thinking about going back makes me so beyond happy. It's weird to be so in love with a place as I am with California. Granted my mom really only wants to go so we can look at more colleges so we actually have a purpose of going, but still it's California. I believe we're also planning to stay for a little over 2 weeks. Last summer when my family and I visited we were there for 10 days, and I felt like we were there for a long time, and this summer we're upgrading and doubling our time. Words can't even describe how excited and content I am right now, all thanks to the my blog of plane tickets which I showed my mom and actually went on to buy them.

Im so excited to visit SDSU, San Diego State University as well as University of Los Angeles and revisiting University of California San Diego again. I'm such a nerd but I'm stoked to be going and being able to spend Independence day in California, even though the first time I visited San Diego we did but I barely remember it, but now that I'm older I'll be able to remember it this time around. I'm honestly so excited to run to the beach again, walk around to get from Point A to Point B. Hopefully I won't spend as much money as I did last year but who knows. :)

Coachella on Snapchat

A lovely surprise popped up on my snapchat this weekend, I saw a Coachella snap story that was super long but I actually watched every second of it. The people that were attending Coachella seemed to be having so much fun listening to all the bands that were playing as well as having fun in the beautiful weather with their friends. I was in awe and in love with everything that I experienced via snapchat and it made me want to go to Coachella more than anything. Actually watching short clips of the variety of fun that Coachella had to offer.

Another thing that surprised me was that Vanessa Hudgens, the Coachella queen, couldn't go this year because she is doing a broadway musical (check out her instagram, more details there) so she unfortunately had to miss out on Coachella this year.

On the plus side, Kendall Jenner attended again this year and literally every single year she looks even more stunning than the previous year. Twitter and Tumblr are filled with fangirl posts over how perfect Kendall Jenner is and I completely agree with them,

I will someday go to Coachella because I feel like the experience it is worth the price and the time being spent would be worth it.

Snapchat

Over the past couple months snapchat has updated several times, one update however allows people from a certain area to post on a 'local snap story'. For example if I were to go downtown Iowa City I would be able to post on the 'University of Iowa campus story'. Last weekend while checking snapchat, I noticed a new local snap story called 'Los Angeles'. Even though the story can get really long, once it was up to 200 seconds, it honestly is worth watching (for me at least).

Since I visited a lot of the places in the Los Angeles area, I recognize most of the places being shown. Watching these snap stories makes me really miss California and the California vibe. There's just so much to do there and the fun seems to never die down. There were some snap stories of the Santa Monica beach, Hollywood boulevard (the street with the stars), and the Hollywood sign. Seeing those snaps reminded me of when I visited those places about 3 years ago. Sometimes I find it hard to believe that Los Angeles is a place where people actually live, and it's not just tourist spot.

There are multiple things I've learned since watching these short videos, some of which are: The Lakers and the Clippers, both Los Angeles teams, played a game against each other with the Clippers winning 105-100, also I learned that the Vans Warped Tour had their "Kickoff Party" in Los Angeles just two days ago, however the tour doesn't officially start until June 17. If anyone follows basketball, the Lakers did not have a good season this year.

American Idol also had auditions in Los Angeles a day-or-so ago. Some contestants sounded really good, in the 10 second limit snapchat, and some of the judges being Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban, and Harry Connick Jr. who have been the American Idol judges for two or more years. For those who aren't familiar with American Idol, it is a show that gives talented people an opportunity to show the world their musical talents. Kelly Clarkson was a winner of American Idol a couple years ago and look at where she's at now, she has multiple albums and a ton of #1 hits.

Yet another event that happened in Los Angeles, is the Dodger game. They beat the San Diego Padres 7-4. This game specifically is important because the Padres is another California team and when it comes to two of the same-state teams go against each other, people in the state gets too into it. Like when Iowa State goes against Iowa, people tend to choose the team that is closest to them. So Northern/ Central California (Los Angeles) tend to root for the Lakers while Southern California cheers for the Padres.

If You're Reading This It's Too Late

As almost everyone knows, Drizzy Drake released a new album a couple weeks ago. His album contains 17 songs that you can get on iTunes for $12.99 and with all honesty, I think it's worth it. Obviously it's typical Drake, singing/ rapping about relationships and love in a way that gets to you. I think this album is a little laid back, similar to Take Care, however it also has a couple songs like Energy and Used To that makes you want to get up and dance.

As I was listening to this album, I realized that Drake actually has some deep quotes that are embedded in his music. There's a couple lines in multiple songs that makes you stop and think 'wow, that was deep'. A good quote from Company featuring Travi$ Scott is:
"I don't deserve it.
She’s just a little too perfect
She’s just a little too worth it
I don’t deserve her at all, not not at all."
I mean alone it may not have an effect on a person (most likely a girl because us girls are emotional) however if a guy would tell a girl to listen to this song, it would have a different effect. I guess that same thing goes for this whole album, if you're a female that's having guy troubles this is the album for you. Drake's songs, in general, are about relationships so this album goes along with his older music.

I'll confess, in middle school (specifically the eighth grade) I basically only listened to Drake. The album 'Take Care' was on one-repeat for at least three months. Being able to successfully sing/rap one of his songs gave me a huge ego-boost. As I was growing up, I wasn't ever a fast reader so when I first learned a rap of one of his songs made me feel so accomplished. It's like finishing a book, the feeling of accomplishment that you spent hours reading words from pages that collectively told a story.

Coachella

I'm sure a lot of people are quite familiar with the music and art festival, Coachella. This annual event takes place in Indio, California since the early 1990's that started because of a protest against the Ticketmaster. Since then, the festival was liked by many so it was made an annual event. Many celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Nina Dobrev and many more that go quite frequently. This year Coachella will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday April 10-12 and April 17-19. Tickets are very expensive, granted they're general admission and cost $375 per person.

At first when I saw how much the tickets were I was completely shocked.  I thought the tickets would only be like $100, no wonder a lot of celebrities go to this even. Who in the world would pay almost $400 for concert tickets? That can pay for a round-trip plane ticket to Florida (if planned months in advance). However I then looked at the list of performers and recognized many names and rethought about the price. Granted the tickets, I believe, are for the whole weekend. If that's the case, $400 is too low. Some people pay $50-$100 for just one of the artists on the list, like The Weeknd or Drake, however with $400 you can see both along with other really good artists and other different genres.

The image above shows the artists that are playing, as well as what days they are playing. The artists go from most well known, shown in bigger and bolder letters and as the popularity decreases, the size corresponds respectively. All the music artists that play at Coachella range in genres, there are some rap, hip-hop/pop, alternative, trap/

There are many great artists this year. Those like The Weeknd, Drake, Vic Mensa, Hozier, ODESZA, Brand New, Marina and the Diamonds and Kygo. Honestly going to Coachella is on my bucket list of things to do before I die. Spending the whole day, outside, in California and listening to a wide-range of music genres and looking at beautiful art with a great group of friends. Being able to dress in cute boho clothes with a flower headband and cute sunglasses, who would complain about that?

Plane Tickets

From my research looking for tickets to California that are affordable to a high school student, I found super cheap, round trip, tickets that were $200-$300. There's an airline named Allegiant that has really cheap plane tickets, and not only to California but to other places as well. I told my mom about this airline, however she already knew about it and told me she used that airline when she went to Las Vegas and it was only about $100 for her round trip ticket.

For some reason if you were to fly on June 28 and come back on July 8, the price including tax is only $259 (www.allegiantair.com) which is pretty cheap considering the price for gas is steadily rising. Plus not a lot of people like to spend about three days driving which is how long it would take if I were to drive to California, not to mention that three days is how long it would take one way, going back would be another three days leaving only a couple of days actually in California.

Staples Center

The Los Angeles Staples Center is one of the most famous arenas that is used for multiple things which the two that are most common are for sporting events and concerts. The arena can hold up to about 20,000 people so if you can imagine how packed it may given that the Staples Center is in downtown Los Angeles, which is the second most populated city in the United States, falling behind New York City.

There has been a time where Justin Bieber rented out the whole stadium to watch a movie with his former girlfriend, Selena Gomez. Tickets for this place aren't cheap to begin with, so Justin renting out the place just for a date with Selena was a big deal, as well as a big purchase. The sad and pathetic part of this story was that he rented out the arena so the two can watch the Titanic. I love the movie and I think that it's a quality film that was put together well but he wasted a ton of money to watch a movie. That's literally, in my opinion, a waste of money, but I guess he's well off so that money that he wasted may not have affected him in a way it might affect an ordinary working-class person.

News: California Has the Warmest Weather Since 1895

As anyone in the midwest knows how miserable and terrible this winter has been, however those on the West coast, specifically California is experiencing the warmest winter in their lifetime. According to The Los Angeles Times the average temperature was about 48 degrees which is about five degrees warmer than the average.

As an angry Junior in high school and being freezing (one of the worst things one the planet by the way), I just want to buy a plane ticket to California and just stay there. The midwest and parts of the East coast has experienced the worst winter in the longest time. Buffalo getting many feet of snow, record low temperatures throughout the cities in the midwest, all meanwhile California has higher than average temperature.

If only weather was distributed more evenly. I'm not saying for the snow and the cold to disappear completely, but instead of California being warmer than average, it can give the extra couple degrees to the midwest where it has reached record low temperatures. It makes sense, right? Then the midwest wouldn't be so undesirable.

For those in the midwest: can you all imagine being on a warm beach with sand that makes you want to melt on it. Or in general, can you imagine just being on a quality beach in the middle of January? I know the answer to the question I'm about to ask but why did Mother Nature create winter? Like I know science is the reason why winter is a thing but if this were American Idol and I was a judge, it would be a huge no from me. I admit snow is pretty when it's falling from the sky, and actually if you take the time to watch the snow fall, it's an amazing site to see, however at some point the beautiful white snow becomes the grossest brown color from the dirty ground, and it also becomes slush that is gross to step in.

Shark Week

Shark Week is basically a week long dedication to the species in which Discovery Channel shows films about sharks and their habitats. I dont know why but sharks interest me. The reason why I find sharks are interesting, is because sometimes they attack people and but then other times they do not. It makes me wonder why. If I smelled really bad, would a shark attack me? Or do they attack only if they are hungry? Also I wonder how sharks can smell blood miles away. Sharks are considered to be a species like (smaller) fish which brings me to wonder why and how sharks are more complex or smarter than regular fish. Like if they lost a tooth the teeth would grow back which I'm going to assume is a trait that was inherited.

The Great White Shark is the most famous species of all the sharks. Since sharks are a group of fish, some people have actually killed them to consume or to sell it's meat. Some that has tried the shark said certain parts are nasty if not taken care properly however if the shark was cared for properly then they are the most tasty fish meat. To be honest, I don't think I would ever voluntarily eat shark meat. I think it's similar to when people eat crocodiles/ alligators and frogs, a select few of the population likes the meat.

A weird thing I've come across before while on the discovery channel is some television show where there were a couple people in a locked cage that's surrounded by the massive creatures. They basically observe the sharks and have the feel of 'swimming with the sharks'. Obviously those people run the risk of getting eaten by one or getting attacked, but I assume those people don't care. Even some surfers run the risk of getting attacked. One of the most famous shark attack incident that involved a surfer was Bethany Hamilton, also known as the author of the book Soul Surfer which was later turned into a movie. In Soul Surfer, Bethany Hamilton talks about her life as a surfer, the attack, and how it had impacted her life after. One major drawback from the attack was that she lost her left arm. Over time she has learned to deal with what happened as well as she learned how to surf using just her right arm. Bethany actually posted not too long ago that her and her husband are having a baby that's due this year.

Clippers

The Los Angeles basketball team is called Clippers. They were founded in 1970. They had different colors throughout the years, red, royal blue, gray, navy and white. They were called the Buffalo Braves when they were first founded. That was until they came to California. Back in the 1900's, they are not a famous basketball team. They are often referred to as losers. It changed in 2010, that was when the Clippers started to get wins. They say it was because of the addition of Blake Griffin and Chris Paul. Since then, the Clippers were doing great in the basketball industry. Even though the Clippers has gotten better recently, they still have not won a NBA championship.

Another and well known basketball team that plays for Los Angeles is the Lakers. They were founded in 1947. Their head coach is Byron Scott. They won 16 NBA championships. They play very well compared to the Clippers. At least that is what I think. The first win was in 1954 and the last was in 2010. Their colors are purple, gold, and white. Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant used to play for the Lakers. Both teams play in the Staples Center.

I think basketball is cool. There are a lot of different sports out there that people watch. Basketball is one of the sports I think to watch. Although personally, my favorite team is the Miami, Heat, Clippers and Lakers play for LA. Basketball is fun to watch especially if you see the players having fun. It is also fun to watch with family and friends. Even though I did not play basketball in High School, I still find it fun to watch.

I think it is important to know the basic rules of basketball so I am going to tell you some. The basic rules of basketball is that 2 teams each have 5 players who try to score a basket. The hoop is at least 10 feet off the ground. When a team has a ball and try to get a basket, they have to move the ball by dribbling or passing to another teammate. If a team scores then the ball goes to the other team. There are terms like defense and offense. Defense is the team that does not have the ball and are try to block a score or get the ball back. The offense is the team that has the ball and are trying to score. When a player scores they are awarded 2 points. If they score out in the 3-point line, then they get 3 points. They have break times or gaps between each play but it varies if you play basketball in High school, college, or professionally. There are many ways to get the ball.  You can steal the ball or the other team makes a foul or violation in the game. There are also different positions you can be like, center, guard, or forward.

Basketball is a fun game many people play. You can play basketball all by yourself, though that would be sad and awkward. I like to play basketball in P.E. during our warm up time.

Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach is a really famous beach in California. There's actually a live camera on the beach and it is played in all the Hollister stores in the United States. This place even has it's own website. I haven't personally been to this beach but someday I know I will.

Just look at how perfect it is, the pier and the waves. Having been to California, seeing this picture makes me feel like I'm actually there. I can imagine the sound of the waves crashing the shore and the cold breeze brushing against my skin, messing up my hair, the taste of the salt from the ocean, and lastly the smell of water mixed with sand and fish.

G-Eazy

Gerald Earl Gillum, also known as G-Eazy, is one of the best rappers/singers that has a unique sound which can be distinguished by in the midst of similar-sounding music. He's originally from the Bay Area in California, where there are a lot of competition in the music industry.

I had just found out about this guy within the past year, and just about everyday since I have played at least one of his songs everyday. His songs are so fun and catchy making it hard to not get obsessed with them instantly. Let's not forget how good looking he is too. Like on a scale of 1-10, he would be a 9.7, he looks like a classy greaser who might have grown up in a the hood. G-Eazy raps (mainly) about the "party life" that consists of drugs, alcohol, and sex. It makes me sad that he doesn't play on the radio because his music has a way of talking to people.

The first time ever listening to G-Eazy was when I was with a group of my friends at the cliffs and someone brought their portable speaker. Then they played the song "I Mean It" and I absolutely loved it. It's not lyrically great, but it's different and catchy. You can hear his voice in the song, which is just a cherry on the top of things. Ever since I can't go a day without listening to him. He recently posted three new songs on soundcloud called "I Might", "Why Thank You" and lastly "Show You The World". Personally I like I might just because it's another song that you listen to that's catchy and at least for me, got me laughing because the lyrics are pretty dumb. But a couple lines in a song can be complete fire (great) but majority of his songs sound better as like background music for cleaning or hanging out with friends.

G-Eazy is slowly becoming more known to the public and I truly believe that he will be as big as Eminem or Drake. I play his music almost everywhere I go and when people ask me who my favorite rapper is, Gerald is always on top. <3

A fun fact about G-Eazy is that he's actually homeless because he sold his house and he lives on his tour bus.

Juicy Couture

Recently, in the midst of looking through my email, I received one from a place called Juicy Couture, a store I was obsessed with in middle school. The clothes are like any other well-known place, over priced for an article of clothing. Who wants to spend up to $70 on a shirt that simply has a 'JC' on it?! Two simple letters on a tee and people would spend that much money just because it's a designer. In middle school however, I thought I was so cool that I spent just as much but on a jacket and I spent even more for a bag that couldn't hold all my books and binders.

This is going to all designers, like how is it that you can sell a person socks that has one or two letters on it, for the price of college tuition? I don't understand. Some people are just too caught up in the world and obsess over these designers and getting the "most expensive" clothing, shoes, etc. However is it even worth it? Is getting all your clothes from Buckle, or Nike or even Victoria Secret more important than food on the table, or gas in your car? I'm not trying to be hypocritical or anything and I understand that there may be good sales, however there are some people who will spend the full price just so they can say they spent so much money on something so small.

HOPSIN

Marcus Hopson, also known as Hopsin, is, in my opinion, the best rapper out there. His lyrics actually means something, instead of rapping about sex, drugs and alcohol, Hopsin raps about life and how there's more to life than those three things that almost every other rapper raps about.

The first time I ever heard a Hopsin song was about a year ago, and the song was called 'Good Guys Get Left Behind' from his Knock Madness album. I remember it as if it happened yesterday. Bez and I were in English class after having Gym first block, and we were both listening to music instead of reading MacBeth. She puts one of her earbuds in my ear and tells me to "listen to this song". I was a bit skeptic of him because he does swear in all of his songs, and his enthusiasm may, at times, be scary, however lyrically is amazing so I had to further stalk him. I later learned the whole rap to 'Ill Mind of Hopsin 5' for Bez's birthday and felt like the next Nicki Minaj.

His songs range from yelling angrily, or calmly roasting people. It's great to just listen to him if you're having a rough day because there's a high chance that he will comfort you in some shape or form. A really good example of him getting too passionate is in 'Ill Mind of Hopsin 7' *Disclaimer: he swears a lot*. However the content of his songs are purely great and means something.

A couple weeks ago Hopsin said he was quitting rap to move to Australia to be with his girlfriend, and because he felt as if the "music industry is trash" which he later posted a video saying it was all a joke and that he wouldn't quit rap AND he's releasing a new album! :)

I MISS CALI

It's that time of the winter that all I want to do is go camping, go to the beach, or simply lay outside just for fun. There's nothing I'd rather do than go to California again and be happy with the little things, like a nice walk on the beach while enjoying the hot summer day with a nice and refreshing breeze. I swear there's something in California air that makes you want to be there forever. A couple of my coworkers went to California within the last month and they all said that they felt as if their stay went by really fast and they want to go back. I as I'm getting closer to graduation high school, all I can think about is how fun it will be to live in California.

Instead of being in lovely California, I'm stuck in the cold midwest, freezing with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). My mom and I always talk about college and about moving to California. Those talks with her make me so happy because of how supportive she is. With the tight schedule I have with school, work, and homework it's hard to actually sit down and talk, so the fact she chooses to talk to me about moving to California makes me so happy.

Look at how happy we were in California/ I didn't intend to post three pictures with mama in them, but it unintentionally happened :)

Super Bowl XLIX

This year, 2015, the two teams participating in the Super Bowl XLIX are the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots. With the start of the second quarter the Seahawks are down by 7. Literally 85% of the Super Bowl is commercials. Most of the commercials aren't that great. There was one that was owned by Nationwide and a little boy on the screen said something along the lines of "I couldn't grow up because I died from an accident" Almost made me cry; on the screen, it said the a high percentage of the childhood deaths are caused by preventable accidents, which made me re-think how I live my life. Instead of me being bitter about something minor and small happens in my life like a bad grade on a test or not being invited to hang out with friends, I should be grateful that I'm alive and breathing because some people don't get to live to be in their teens or high school.

SEATTLE GOT A TOUCHDOWN! The score is tied 7-7. Seahawks went from the 2 yard line to the endzone, so proud of my West coast team :') However they really need to get better plays. The Patriots are playing wide and are running out to the sidelines versus getting tackled like what the Seahawks are doing. From playing soccer, I know getting tackled, or even just falling will tire you.

Update: It's now tied up again; 14-14 :') They hanging in there. Come on Seahawks, I believe in you.

Even though he's on the opposing team, Tom Brady is a beautiful human being and deserves to be blogged about. He's the quarterback for the New England Patriots and is MY FAVORITE NUMBER, which is 12. He basically carries the team on his back because without him, none of the plays would happen without him, and lastly the touchdowns wouldn't be that significant without him. For those who don't know what a quarterback does, they are the ones to yell 'HIKE' or 'HUT' and the center throws the ball to the quarterback and the quarterback then has two options: throw the ball or run with it. Throughout the game, Brady has had some really good throws.

*Half Time*

Katy Perry's outfit is unique like always.. But the thing she's riding looks fun. I mean she sounds beautiful and the Dark Horse performance is so trippy, but entertaining. Um, I'm confused to who the other dude is though. HER WARDROBE CHANGE FOR TEENAGE DREAM OMG. Just like everything for this performance, wow. I wonder how much the sharks are getting paid to dance for her. SHE'S SINGING CALIFORNIA GURLS OMG YES! <3 The stage looks so dangerous like it's so dimly lit and it looks like you can fall down and like break bones or something.. Okay the Firework performance has got to be the best, I was not expecting that at all. To be honest I thought her performance was going to be so bad but it was really entertaining.

Okay, the Patriots only won by four points. I'm so done. Majority of the game was back and forth starting with the Patriots. They would score then the Seahawks would score and then repeat. Overall I thought the Super Bowl was pretty interesting and worth the watch. Even though I'm not that into football I felt like I was too into the game.
